Cointreau, feminine and strong liqueur
Since 1849 the family Cointreau in Angers, in the south of France, is making liquor from fruits. First with a cherry-based, then, in 1875, based on the oranges, which gave him worldwide fame to the brand.
The ingredients are few and simple: alcohol for liquor, orange (untreated), sugar and water.
It seems impossible that such simplicity will lead to an aroma product (orange) so intense and at the same time refined, almost colorless.
Very particular preparation, it seems does not provide for the infusion of orange, but their suspension a few inches of alcohol in an airtight container. After a couple of weeks you add water and sugar and the liqueur made from oranges is done. I've never tried it, but said that sooner or later ...
It 's definitely a drink that appeals to the female gender, so fruity and sweet taste and round. The aroma is quite "easy" but do not deceive: the alcohol content is not exactry for young ladies: 40% vol!
In my house never fails, but, like maybe I've got to say, do not hardly ever drink liquor (and my wife, I know, either).
Cointreau is in fact, in my opinion, a wonderful ingredient in combination with other elements to form a long drink, or better, "season" for his part ice cream and fruit.
Take a handful of currants, sprinkle with a teaspoon of sugar and then, sparingly, some the excellent Cointreau. Stir and, since perfume, you will enjoy the secular paradise that has formed in front of you.
The Cointreau combines with many other ingredients: there are recipes that use it together with dried fruits, almonds, coconut, peaches, pears, strawberries, berries and more, so with a little 'imagination, you can invent recipes really good .
The price of this liquor, with its characteristic square bottle of thick glass, is around 12 euros / 15 dollars.
